A MEDIEVAL PALETTE: COLOURS OF THE MIDDLE AGES

Today we have access to any colours or materials we could ever want, but of course this was never always the case. In these workshops we focus on colours found in the medieval era. During those times the range of colours was much reduced compared to today but some of what was used was very vibrant indeed.

In these workshop, as with most of our workshops, we connect to these historical colours by seeing, and in some cases, using some of the genuine pigments of the time, pigments formed from minerals, plants and other origins.

To bring these pigments to life, we make them into paints using historical binders before combining them into a palette that authentically reflects the middle ages. Participants then go home with their own collection of handmade medieval paints at the end of the day.

Please do get in touch if you are interested in this workshop, we also offer the medieval series as a series of talks.
